The honest answer: it depends on where you drive, how often, and what people near your routes are curious about. What follows is the math without the exaggeration.
The short version
OnRoady bounties are priced by the requester, typically between $5 and $25 per accepted clip. One clip is one bounty. There is no subscription, no cap on how many bounties you can claim in a month, and no minimum quota to stay active.
That is the whole model. Everything else on this page is the fine print you deserve before you decide whether it is worth your time.
Where the number actually comes from
Bounty prices are set by the person posting the request, not by OnRoady. A location scout who wants a fresh look at a coastal pullout might price a clip at $8. A road-trip planner who wants to see whether a mountain pass is still passable on a Tuesday afternoon might price the same clip at $20 because the answer is more time-sensitive. A project manager who wants a mid-week look at a job site two states away might price it at $25 because the value of a same-day glance is genuinely higher than the value of a leisurely one.
The market sorts this out. When a requester underprices a bounty relative to how far out of the way it is, drivers do not claim it, and the requester either raises the price or lets it expire. When a requester overprices, the first matching driver in the area picks it up quickly.
What OnRoady takes
OnRoady takes a marketplace fee out of each bounty. The exact split is visible in the app before you claim a clip; you always see the net amount you will be paid, not the gross. We are not going to publish the fee number on a marketing page because we reserve the right to adjust it as the marketplace matures and we do not want a stale number to become a promise.
Stripe also charges a payout fee when you cash out. Standard payouts (1-3 business days) are free. Instant payouts (same-day, when available) charge a small percentage that Stripe sets, not us.
What you actually take home
The most honest way to think about earnings on OnRoady is:
- Not a full-time income. Not now, probably not ever. This is not a rideshare replacement.
- Yes a real amount of money for a couple of minutes of filming on a drive you were already making. If your regular commute passes three or four bounty-friendly spots (a landmark, a stretch of highway, a viewpoint), one accepted clip a week at $10 is $520 a year that used to be $0.
- Occasionally a good week. Someone posts a $25 bounty for a place you were already driving through, you upload the clip that afternoon, you're up $25 that would not have existed otherwise.
The upper bound on any given clip is bounded by what a curious person will pay to see a place they cannot be. That is not a huge number, and we are not going to pretend it is.
Before you get paid: the KYC step
OnRoady runs KYC (know-your-customer) identity verification before any money moves. This is a legal requirement, not an OnRoady policy choice. Stripe, our payment processor, will not release funds to an unverified account.
KYC takes about five minutes. You confirm your legal name, date of birth, and address, and (in the US) provide the last four of your Social Security number for tax reporting. This is standard for every US gig platform.
If you claim bounties before completing KYC, your earnings sit in escrow until you finish it. Nothing is lost; you just cannot cash out.
Payout timing
Standard Stripe payouts land in your bank account in 1-3 business days after you cash out. Instant payouts (when supported by your bank) land within thirty minutes for a small fee that Stripe controls.
If a payout appears delayed beyond three business days, the OnRoady support inbox at support@onroady.app is read by a person, and the wallet screen in the app shows the exact status of every pending transfer.
The claims we will never make
A few things you will not see us say, on this page or anywhere else:
- We will not tell you to drive somewhere you were not already going. The marketplace is designed around roads you were already going to drive; that is the whole insight.
- We will not promise a monthly income. It varies by geography, route, and how curious people are about the places you drive past.
- We will not publish a "top earners" leaderboard. That kind of framing turns a side thing into a stressful thing, which is exactly not the point.
The pitch
If you drive the same roads most weeks, OnRoady turns the miles you are already driving into a small, steady, honest amount of money for clips that would otherwise never exist. It is not going to change your life. It might quietly cover a phone bill.
Someone is already driving past. OnRoady is where the view goes to find someone who wanted to see it.
